For WeHOPE, abandoning our most vulnerable neighbors in this time of uncertainty is not an option. Our promise is to continue meeting the needs of the homeless and marginalized through the COVID-19 Pandemic and beyond.
In 2020, WeHOPE has achieved the following:
- Increased the total people it serves by 35%
- Expanded mobile hygiene services in 4 counties and 16 cities - 3,188 showers & 1,383 loads of laundry provided in the month of April Hygiene service schedule
- Added 18 additional shelter beds while maintaining appropriate social distancing practices – Shelter clients being provided food, shelter and comprehensive case management
- Addressed the need for access to clean water and handwashing stations in encampments and parks – 2 restroom/hand washing trailers servicing parks in East Palo Alto 7 days a week and 10 portable handwashing stations deployed to San Jose homeless encampments
- Quadrupled its fresh food distribution to families in need – 64,324 lbs. of food distributed throughout the Bay Area
- Expanded its RV Safe Parking program hours from 12 to 24 hours a day – 13 families are sheltered in place with access to free food, showers/laundry, restroom services, security and comprehensive case management provided 5x a week
- Provided WeHOPE Shelter clients job and life skills classes virtually – Classes offered 2x a week
- 4 WeHOPE clients have been housed and 3 have gotten jobs since the Shelter in Place order was put in place
- Provided WeHOPE Shelter clients job and life skills classes virtually – Classes offered 2x a week
- Housed medically vulnerable WeHOPE Shelter clients in hotels – 32 clients sheltered in place in local hotels with food and comprehensive case management support
- Launched Hope Health Mobile to provide virtual medical assessments and information to encampments – Vehicle underwritten by City of San Jose and medical support provided by Stanford School of Medicine
- Provided 130 mobile charging stations for phones and laptops to individuals living in encampment
- Obtained and distributed 43,000 surgical and KN95 masks to front-line service partners – Including: Ravenswood Family Health Center, Valley Medical Center, Peninsula Healthcare Connection, Life Moves, Home First, East Palo Alto Police Department, Abode Services, Samaritan House, Nuestra Casa, City Team, Second Harvest Food Bank, Downtown Streets Team
